Made in Britain: industrial engineering

Two fantastic videos showing how ‘Made in Britain’ used to be!

Made in Britain: industrial engineering of gold leaf

This first video shows the making of gold leaf from the beating and rolling of gold bars. It’s amazing to see how a 77 year old had been beating gold for 63 years – and using the same hammer. That skill and experience was passed down to apprentices.

This video is no longer available.

Made in Britain: industrial engineering of spectacles

In this second video we see how glasses were made. The video is dated 1965 and shows the lenses being made from glass and handmade frames being tailored to an individual’s taste.
