Microbial Bioreactor
Cambridge University
We were tasked with creating an open-source platform allowing basic microbial science accessible to regions not able to invest in expensive reactor systems.
The caseworks are all open-source 3D printable files with the BOM specifically configured to allow maximum access to off the shelf components. The Arduino microcontroller (with pen source code) is configured to warm the cultures. And using peristaltic delivery of re-agents, can control the temperatures and culture pH levels within tight limits to not damage or kill the precious microbes being cultured.
From an input of a 110-240Vac PSU the entire system can be used with the open-source files and accessibility to multiple source components from eBay, amazon and other multicomponent supplied local to geographical locations in developing countries.
